2020 Swimwear Trends for Women

9 Jan 2020

There's no better way to begin the year than by getting a new bathing suit. That being said, you're in luck! We've sifted through all the trends for 2020 and selected the best of the best—the hottest colours and styles for when summer rolls around. We hope that this assortment will inspire you to sunbathe for a few days or prompt you to plan a trip to the spa with your gal pals…

The retro balconette and high-waisted bikini

The retro bustier is making a name for itself as a top swimwear trend. This structured (yet extremely comfortable) style has the advantage being flattering on many different silhouettes.

When it comes to the bikini bottoms, they hit higher on the torso. The leg openings are high-cut and the waist is more form-fitting. Pair it with a balconette top and you're guaranteed to make a splash at the beach and on your Instagram feed.

The one-shoulder swimsuit

2020 seems to know what trend to focus on: one-shoulder styles! A single strap creates an asymmetric look that's utterly appealing. We find it featured on bralettes, but also on one-piece swimsuits that definitely have Bond Girl 2.0 vibes.

Belted swimsuits

Accessories will be essential as you sunbathe on the sand this summer. You'll find a wide range of swimsuits with waists accentuated by all types of trim and vintage belts. Think raffia, tortoiseshell, and even metal buckles. The result? A polished look that's absolutely effortless.

Geometric necklines and cutouts

It's all about the angles. On one hand, we have bandeaus framed by wide straps that create perfect minimalist 90° angles. On the other, assorted geometric cutouts appear here and there on swimsuits (mostly one-pieces), showing just the right amount of skin to be beautifully bold. We're also giving a special shout-out to V-necks, whose structured points subtly accentuate the décolletage.

Textures and relief

This summer, it's impossible not to see raised and waffled stripes. Vertical micro-ribbing is particularly popular in swimwear, just like embossed fabrics that are irregular to the touch. Shirred textures have come back even bigger this season, accompanied by ruffles and frills for looks that are full of romance. Our favourite detail for 2020? Drawstrings that redefine the shape of swimwear with ruching resulting from a simple pull.

The palette for summer 2020

Did you know animal print is becoming the new black? Be fierce at the beach by showing your wild side! When it comes to animal patterns, beautiful warm browns will be bringing the heat for summer 2020. After the popularity of rosewood and terracotta, it's now time for chestnuts to have their turn. Make way for sepia, café au lait, and mahogany! Those looking for vibrant colours won't be let down with all the styles coming in orange, a trending shade in swimwear this season. We're particularly taken with tangerine, blood orange, and cantaloupe. Patterns inspired by retro picnics in the country will be bigger than ever this summer. Pastel ginghams, micro-dots, vertical stripes, and florals from 1950s wallpaper help us show our softer side on matching 2-piece sets.
