6 Key Runway Trends

24 Aug 2018

Summer is in full swing. The sun is shining and we’re enjoying every minute of the warm weather, but in the wonderful world of fashion, it’s been fall for a few months now! To get a jump on the hottest style elements for next season, there’s nothing better than taking a quick look at the runways of the biggest designer labels. And that’s just what we’ve done for you! From Paris to Milan, London to New York, here’s a rundown of the key trends to wear for fall and winter.

Check, the season’s most sophisticated and elegant pattern, takes a top spot
as a trend in both menswear and womenswear. Prince of Wales plaid, windowpane check,
and refined tartan come in classic neutrals or are reworked in rich colours.

Seen at Acne Studios, Marni, and Dries Van Noten, they look smart on deluxe fabrics like warm wools and tweeds, and add a chic, aristocratic air to today's looks.

Helping you avoid winter’s worst weather is the down jacket, outerwear’s official star. Top designers have reinvented this basic quilted topper, making room for creative and modern interpretations.

The silhouette is sometimes amplified or elongated for a coat-like look that’s really first rate. Darker colours will be popular, but are reworked with shiny finishes, prints, and saturated shades that’ll create a captivating contrast against the immaculate white snow.

Keeping yourself covered without sacrificing your sense of style is possible!
Designer looks confirm that layers are still very current and that shearling is fashion’s new favourite fabric for standing out while staying snug.

Whether it’s genuine or synthetic, this soft, warm wool makes for super comfy and cozy coat linings and trim at Chloé and Kenzo. Footwear has also found its way into this trend with ever-popular UGG boots making a comeback via Y/Project’s thigh-high designs. Trust us, everyone’s buzzing about them! (Psst! We even saw Rihanna rocking a pair at Coachella last April!)

For an extra punchy pop of colour, there’s nothing quite like yellow. Seen on the catwalk and spotted in street style snaps, all of fashion’s followers are already fans of this hot hue.

From its warm tones seen at Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Missoni, and Ovadia and Sons to its bold brights celebrated by Y-3, yellow epitomizes energy, light, and optimism. Dare to wear this happy hue and add something extra to your fall-winter looks.

Clothing’s utility takes on an all-new importance as details that further its functionality have become terribly trendy. We’re witnessing the direct influence of activewear with the appearance of design elements that are not only practical, but also aesthetically pleasing.

Among other things, pockets are now very pronounced, standing out due to appliqué, contrasting fabrics, and brightly coloured accents, while drawstrings, zips, snaps, and other functional systems are all being added to today’s top designs.

Fashion has once again fallen in love with the chic, exotic, and graphic appeal of animal print. These motifs are making a major comeback in the trendy urban jungle, allowing different patterns inspired by creatures great and small to have their moment in the sun.

Leopard spots give coats and accessories a little extra glamour, snake-like scales are completely captivating, and zebra and tiger stripes add visual energy to every outfit. This season, more than ever, is the best time to show your wild side!

Proof that these new style elements are utterly on trend, we’ve spotted them not only on the catwalk, but also at the entrance to the runway shows, where fashion’s most illustrious figures compete with one another for the boldest and most creative clothing.

We’re drawing inspiration from the outfits of Carlotta OddiAlexandra Carl, Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, Irene Kim, Justin O’Shea, and other influential fashionistas and fashionistos who are forecasting a fall that’s chic and super sophisticated.
