Ultra violet, color of the year 2018
We are constantly stimulated, inspired, and motivated by the colors around us. This is something that the team at Pantone, the world authority on color, really understands. Every year for the past 19 years, it's challenged itself to find the shade that will represent and embody the upcoming year. It proudly announced that the new hue selected for 2018 will be: Ultra Violet. Pantone describes this purple shade as a symbol of “originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future.”
Today’s most popular stars and prominent influencers wasted no time adding pieces from this palette to their wardrobes. Rihanna looked picture perfect surrounded by a cloud of lilac tulle from designer Molly Goddard at the London launch of her Fenty Beauty cosmetic line, while Hailee Steinfield paired a shiny, iridescent pair of mauve knee-high boots with her crisp white dress for the Grammys.
The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today

It’s no secret that even fashion’s most famous designers introduced Ultra Violet into their spring/summer 2018 collections. Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino paired it with contrasting pastels. At Kenzo, the color came super saturated, and at Gucci, it was worn from head to toe. On the Rochas runway, it appeared in sheers or fabrics with high-shine finishes. Balenciaga, Moschino, and others also ventured to use the hue, proving that this palette can really bring out the creativity of the masters of fashion.
This year, our days will be perfectly purple! Ultra Violet has become a symbol of the future and of what the world needs, and now it’s time to let it shine.
